Vivien called me one of the nights before Olevels started. She said there's a vacancy at the F&B department of Singapore Zoo, and if I'm interested to join her for the interview. I agreed and headed down for the interview after class one day. We were supposed to look for this Assistant Manager named Daisy for the interview. We waited for around half an hour and she came over. And we got the job! Collected our uniforms straight after our last paper and started work on the 24th November 2005.
During our OJA, Jennifer spoke to us and got us to take the flu jab. This tall man, Andy, which I didn't knew that he was the manager then came over and told Jennifer not to let us take the jab. Cause he didn't really wanted both Vivien and I. Reason being, we are Chinese, and during Chinese New Year, we may not be able to work. So he wanted to give this chance to the 3 malay girls. Jennifer ignored his words and got us to take the jab. And we continued with this job. Many many things happened, we learned alot, made many friends, and even got close with the staff in other departments. My first station after I got tyhoid jab was Jungle Asia where I was there for around 3 months plus before I moved on to Jungle Cashier, then FFK, then Tandoori and finally Forest Fare. After which I learned to send meals to SPH and stuff. Both of us learnt it the hard way actually. We didn't knew anyone there and just depended on ourselves to look for things and do things. As we were still new, shy, we didn't dare approach others for help, and they all seems so busy.
Daisy was the first person in RITW to make me feel welcomed and appreciated. I wasn't close with her, but I knew she's someone I can approach. She seems gentle and approachable compared to others in the management team. The team includes Andy, Shalan, Daisy, Jennifer, Syafi. Soon, got closer with Andy and he started sending Vivien and myself home.
As for staff, I got closer with the part timer girls. Like Cathi, Liting, Betsy, Amanda, Si Hui, Si Min etc. And then guys like Dannie(my baby now), Lionel, Richie, James etc. Had some fun time together. Those were the times we really had fun! Would sms each other, talk to each other, meet up after work.
Viven and myself started our jokes on guys in F&B department. Got a lil crazy over it. Like I said I like Yong Kam Fatt, and she like Richie. Ah Fatt and I even joke about it "seriously". Like he would joke about wanting to treat me to dinner after work, and how he would take care of me if I agreed to be his "girlfriend". And those moment we slog for the company together till late nights with the philipinoes.
Those were the times. I'm sure Vivien would not forget all these too :) so nice. so sweet. haha. I even got to know my current baby, here in RITW! It's amazing. All the happy and sad moments we had together. Especially Vivien and myself. How both of us got really close, and really not close and back together again.
Vivien, I'm so glad you forgave me for neglecting you so many times when I was "popular". And I'm really glad I have you as my friend, you taught me what a friend is. And I want to tell you, I love you, girl. Though many things have changed. But this place, I'm sure, I'll never forget. You, my friend always :)
